AVAILABLE POSITIONS

SENIOR EDITOR

Insight Editions is looking for talented Senior Editors. These editors will help drive our publishing programs, assist in acquiring books and manage high volume projects throughout the entire editorial process. We are looking for people who are experienced editors, have a strong design eye, and impeccable project management skills. At least 5-8 years of recent experience acquiring and editing licensed and entertainment books is essential. You will be the visionary behind the project and responsible for keeping everyone involved engaged and on schedule. An ability to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects while working closely with talented authors, illustrators, writers, and licensors is essential. It is imperative that you love research, are extremely detail-focused, and can handle ever-changing deadlines and expectations with calm and ease. Experience selecting authors, acquiring assets, and assisting in the creative vision behind a book is a plus. Being passionate about the product and concept and relentless in your drive for perfection are qualities that drive success in this position. Lastly, having an eye for what might be the next trending topic in the market and being networked in the industry are both advantages for any candidate.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and edit approximately 12-15 projects per year
  • Research industry trends and develop new book concepts and formats
  • Manage projects from start to finish, working closely with internal Production Editorial, Design, and Production teams
  • Liaison with sales and marketing, and oversee the development of marketing collateral
  • Maintain budgets and manage your portion of project schedules
  • Write sales, marketing, and cover copy
  • Develop relationships with licensors, authors, illustrators, and agents


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience acquiring and editing licensed and entertainment books
  • A proven track record of acquiring, championing, and developing successful publications
  • Knowledge of the film, television, video game, and licensing industries. Extensive experience in gaming is a plus.
  • Experience managing budgets and P&Ls within the publishing environment
  • Ability to manage a team of freelancers and work collaboratively within the internal Editorial team
  • Experience managing multiple schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing needs; an ability to liaison across departments and develop effective sales materials
  • Exceptional editorial and writing skills
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style


This is a full-time position in the greater Los Angeles area or Bay Area. Permanent remote status will be considered for the right candidate. 

EDITORIAL ASSISTANT

Insight Editions seeks an Editorial Assistant to provide support to the editorial team. Our publishing program includes titles from many of the world’s largest pop-culture brands, from Harry Potter to DC Comics to Disney. The role is a great opportunity for a candidate to learn the editorial process for a global publishing company. The assistant will report to the Editorial Director, working closely with editorial team members within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This is a full-time position located in our San Rafael, CA office or in our Los Angeles, CA office.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Editorial Director and editorial team on all aspects of acquisitions and project management including brainstorming, research, concept development, creation of pitch materials, writing title outlines, rights & clearance tracking, licensor approval tracking, updating title information in FileMaker and distribution portals.
  • Assist in the creation/gathering of information for marketing and sales collateral, including sales copy, sell sheets, catalog copy, sales decks, blads, and brochures.
  • Interact with professionalism with authors, artists, designers, filmmakers, licensors, agents, in-house staff in all departments of Insight Editions.
  • Gather and sort assets for use in sales materials and book layouts, create book maps.
  • Search and analyze competitive market research and compile reports.
  • Assist with ongoing database management projects.
  • Take accurate notes in meetings and distribute to teams.
  • Track project development costs, process invoices for approval.
  • Perform general administrative duties, such as managing ongoing meetings, emailing updates, tracking approvals with licensors.


Qualifications:

  • BA in English or a related field.
  • 1 to 2 years editorial experience a plus, preferably within a publishing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A passion for books and writing; enthusiasm for pop culture a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of the film, television, and gaming industries.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.


This is a full-time position and located in the Bay Area.

EDITOR - INSIGHT ADULT

Insight Editions is searching for an experienced, enthusiastic, and collaborative EDITOR to join a publishing team that is passionate about the licensing brands we represent and committed to creating content that connects fans and readers with the most fun and innovative pop culture books in the world. In this position, you will assist in acquiring books, and manage high volume projects throughout the entire editorial process. This role will oversee a variety of publishing formats across multiple brands including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pokémon, New Regency Films, Minecraft, and many others. Experience with licensed publishing is a plus. In this role, you will work closely with in-house design, production, sales, and marketing teams to successfully shape, shepherd, and launch innovative product releases across multiple formats. At least 3-5 years of recent experience editing books is essential.

SENIOR DESIGNER/ART DIRECTOR

Insight Editions is looking for a talented Senior Designer or Art Director with best-in-class experience in book publishing. We are looking for exceptional candidates who can be a hands-on leader and, at the same time, help shape the future look and feel of our licensed entertainment imprint. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in the publishing industry with graphic design and art direction and would be responsible for designing a portion of the list as well as art directing in-house designers and freelancers for the rest of the division.


Key Responsibilities:

  • 10+ years of experience in the publishing industry with graphic design and art direction
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • The ability to create complex, highly creative designs and layouts
  • Advanced knowledge of print formats and the printing process
  • Experience working with, mentoring and providing direction to junior designers
  • A high-level of cross-departmental and external communication skills and diplomacy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, changing priorities, and tight deadlines
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Expertise with sourcing, commissioning, and managing illustrators and other freelance vendors
  • Proficient with photo shoot organization, shot lists, and on set direction
  • Knowledge of pop-culture is a major plus


Required Skills:

  • Advanced experience in Adobe CC Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and the Google Suite
  • Strong technical knowledge of book production and the publishing industry
  • Color proofing and preflight skills
  • Organizational and time management skills


This is a full-time position located in the Los Angeles area or Bay Area. Permanent remote status will be considered for the right candidate.
